Summer is well on the way, and for many people, that is going to mean some pretty sweltering nights of sleep. Sleeping in summer can be tricky when you’re looking for heat relief as well as comfort. However, there are plenty of sleeping in hot weather hacks that you can put to the test to make sure you get a comfortable nights sleep.
Tired of running a fan all night? It’s time to sort out a summer sleeping regime that works for you and your comfort levels.
Believe it or not, but here is a pillow out there which stay cool or cold all the time. But how do they do it? Easy – they’re filled with a special gel or liquid which helps to create a cooler surface for you to sleep on. These are widely available in stores and online, meaning that it shouldn’t be too tricky to hunt down the perfect fit.
Naturally, we all want to sleep in comfortable bedding! However, there will come a time as the months roll by where you will need to switch out that winter duvet for something a little more manageable and breathable. Instead of clogging yourself up with a thick, chunky duvet, make sure to thin things out. Look for a thinner duvet, or simply switch to blankets. Providing your mattress is comfy and supportive enough, there are no reasons why this won’t help to cool you down during sleep.
Ventilation is, of course, crucial in warm weather. Ventilating at all is extremely important! However, you’re going to need to be smart about how you set such a system up. You could set up a duct system in your home – which can mean a lot of hard work – or, you could leave your windows open during the day to let cool air circulate. In any case, you’re going to need to get some of that lovely cool air in if it’s simply too warm to sleep properly.
A cold compress is a great solution to cooling down before bed. Simply wet and wring out the flannel and place it on your forehead or neck. This will help to cool you down and to ensure you get off to sleep sooner rather than later.
Another great way to start preparing for sleeping in summer is to take cold showers right before bed. You should dry off, too, of course! However, cooling your body down is going to be an ideal way to make sure you drift off without any difficulty. Water is a real asset during summer, and you’re going to want to keep it to hand if you want a good night’s sleep in the heat.
You might not find that you need to drink too much during the night but keep hydrated just in case. If you really want to learn how to sleep in hot weather without hassle, make sure you have a tall glass of cold water just in case you need to refresh yourself in the middle of the night.
